EAT MORE BEETS!
My earliest childhood recollections often feature the strongly worded admonitions of my Mother to "eat your beets boy!". I must admit that I never really liked the taste and didn't start following Mom's advice until much later in life when I discovered the real benefits of this wonderful food. My own personal experience has been nothing short of life-changing and I want to share it with you.
Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) is a root vegetable that is packed with essential nutrients and are a great source of fiber, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Due to their high content of inorganic nitrates, beetroots and beetroot juice have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, increased energy and exercise/sexual performance, memory boost. Our bodies convert dietary nitrates — such as those from beetroots — into nitric oxide which accounts for most of the health benefits this vegetable provides. My own personal journey with beetroot began when I started to look for a source of clean, long-lasting energy. Approaching the "middle-years" and facing an ever decreasing level of testosterone, I found myself "running out of gas" in the middle of the afternoon.
